XIRO Xplorer Mini: The folding drone for selfies. A year after the CES Las Vegas debut last year, XIRO, the Zero Tech consumer brand, announced the launch of the new Xplorer Mini in Europe: a small folding drone conceived for dronies “The equivalent” selfie “steering wheel so loved by social network users such as Facebook and Instagram.
The Xplorer Mini is piloted via WiFi signal using an App for Android and iOS smartphones (the XIRO App is downloadable free of charge from the official Apple and Android stores). This mini drone measures 31 x 31 x 5.5 cm and weighs 431 grams and has an operating range of 100 meters. It can fly for about 15 minutes thanks to a 1600 mAh 3S battery pack.
The Mini Xplorer’s 13 Megapixel (F2.8) camera allows this small folding quadricopter to record video at a maximum resolution of 1080p (30 fps). In addition, the cam can take pictures at a resolution of 4208 x 3120 points.
With electronic image stabilization, the fish-eye effect is just mentioned (the image correction technology is similar to that adopted by Parrot on the famous Bebop). With the Follow Me feature, you can shoot autosome video eg when you are engaged in your favorite sport without having to worry about having a radio remote control to handle the drone and the camera’s position.
Flying or real drone?
The Mini Xplorer, although having a very small size, is not a toy and was developed in collaboration with Qualcomm: the giant American wireless technology. Flight features are advanced (the engines are brushless, there are position sensors for indoor flight and GPS for outdoor flights). Currently, the exact price for the European market is still unknown, but it should be between 400 and 500 euros.
